Our Commitment to the Environment Goes Beyond Federal Regulations
For many distributors, protecting the environment simply means following federal regulations. At SCL, we take it a step further by offering greener product options and abiding by practices within our own facilities that reflect a commitment to protecting where we live.
A Principled Approach
Throughout our company’s history, we’ve witnessed the rise of government-led environmental regulations aimed at reversing damage and preventing additional harm to waterways and other areas of the environment. As those standards have continued to be introduced, we’ve not only adjusted the way we do business to ensure our company and clients are aligned with the law, we’ve used each of them as inspiration to go above and beyond within our own walls. We are committed to not only upholding the strictest interpretations of state and federal regulations aimed at protecting the environment, but also leading a green lifestyle ourselves. In addition to adding green products to our portfolio and helping customers strive toward a smaller footprint if they choose to go that route, we also encourage greener practices among our employees. That means everything from environmentally friendly products in our restrooms, recycling in our offices, and reducing waste through the implementation of paperless communications, both internally and externally.
We’ve instituted these policies, and continue to strive toward more environmentally conscious business practices for two reasons: one, following state and federal standards is and always has been a top priority for our team and, two, because individually, we have a passion for the outdoors and, to put it simply, want to do whatever we can to protect it.
“We are committed to not only upholding the strictest interpretations of state and federal regulations aimed at protecting the environment, but also leading a green lifestyle ourselves.”
Issues
In the 1990s, when SCL had already been in business over 25 years, the federal government began emphasizing the need for environmental regulations. Since then, we’ve witnessed the rise of numerous standards put in place to protect emissions on land, in the air and in waterways throughout the country and in our home state of California.
From the Clean Water Act of 1972 to the Toxic Substances Control Act of 2016, our industry is highly regulated. Those regulations are often updated and, for many companies, it can be challenging to stay educated on all of those changes. From disposing of toxic waste to maintaining vehicles to ensure lower emissions, all of it is essential for companies committed to following standards and reducing their carbon footprint.
Solutions
At SCL, we not only make knowing state and federal regulations pertaining to the environment a top priority, we make it so our customers know those regulations as well. Our team of experts also goes above and beyond to help customers abide by everything in their everyday practice, which not only ensures they are following standards but also helps them to avoid often hefty fees handed out for violations.
For companies who want to go above and beyond standards, we also offer numerous environmentally friendly products and services including oil filtration and green solutions that keep machines running efficiently. Expanding that portfolio continues to be a priority for us as well, especially moving into an age where we have more restrictions on how we handle products than ever before.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid
A non-hazard solution, Diesel Exhaust Fluid is a blend of 32.5% urea and 68.5% de-ionized water. DEF is sprayed into the exhaust system of diesel vehicles to break down dangerous NOx emissions into harmless nitrogen and water. Used by many fleets and municipalities due to its environmentally friendly properties, DEF is an increasingly popular product option among SCL customers.
